Harriet Coleridge
Harriet became a potter by chance. She was engaged in postgraduate studies at Bristol when she paid a fortuitous visit to Aldermason Pottery. A year later she was an apprentice to Alan Caiger Smith. He and Edgar Campden taught her to throw, to glaze and decorate pots in tine glaze earthenware tradition.
In 1987 she set up her own gallery and was a member of the Oxfordshire Craft Guide - exhibiting widely.
In 1994 Harriet moved to America and discovered the joys of firing with wood and salt, and building her own kiln.
On her return to England in 2001 she established her own studio and works now in stoneware and porcelain. The clays she enjoys throwing are porcelain from Limoges and a lovely blue stoneware from St Amand in Central France. She fires in four different kilns and it is thanks to the firing process that her finished pots are so different.
