John Kennedy
John Kennedy ( deceased) was born in Burma and educated in India and England. In 1980 he opened a studio in Palm Springs. The unique form of his work is reflective of the tall, slim and graceful natives of northern Burma that he watched as a boy. His works have sold in Europe and America and are included in many private collections. We are also proud to have a life size piece of his work which is housed in the garden of the Woodstock Museum close to our gallery.
He was well known for his elegant and lyrical sculptures of the human figure. He has been awarded many commissions including the sculpture honoring Audrey Hepburn at the United Nations building in New York City. Because Hepburn spent many years working for the UN Children’s Fund on behalf of children in Latin America and Africa Kennedy created a beautiful sculpture depicting a woman holding the hand of a small child.
“ As an incurable romantic., I seek to capture the warmth and tender closeness , the caring feelings as well as the joy and often the whimsical side of these very personal emotions” “ This is why I see the human body as a point of reference, simplifying the figure to a lyrical composition”.
Kennedy believed that a piece of sculpture is a visual communicator that begs a viewer to participate, understand and appreciate the relationships and emotions he instils in his art.
