Melanie Wright
Melanie was born and grew up in North Yorkshire. She continues a long artistic family tradition of painting, which started with her great grandfather, James Faed RA and his two brothers, Thomas Faed RA and John Faed RA, portrait, genre and landscape painters originally from Galloway, who lived and worked in London during the mid to late Victorian period. Both Melanie's grandmothers were also painters. She grew up riding and hunting and loved watching the racehorses riding out on the moors at Middleham, Wensleydale, which is where her initial interest in racing began.
Melanie trained in Fine Art and portrait painting at Heatherleys School of Fine Art in London. After running a portrait studio in London and painting racing pictures at Ascot, Epson Downs and Windsor, she moved to Oxfordshire in 2007.
She now draws inspiration from the Cotswolds landscape, equestrian subjects and sporting activities, particularly in the racing and polo world. Melanie paints at National Hunt racing yards, on the gallops and from the landscape. She is often to be seen sketching and painting at race meetings such as Cheltenham and Towcester, Point to Points and more recently has been drawing the polo matches at Cirencester Park and Beaufort polo clubs, where the speed and dynamism of the game is a rich source of inspiration.
Her work is exhibited in London and at a small selection of galleries in the UK and has been purchased for private collections in the USA, Europe and South Africa.
