Michael Hyam
Michael Hyam was born in London in 1958. He graduated in Graphic Design at Newcastle in 1986 and worked for several years as an art tutor at Loughton College.
He has exhibited regularly with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Watercolour Society, the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. In 1992 he won the Daler-Rowney Award for Outstanding Work and in 1993 was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of British Artists. While he continues to paint outstanding still lifes, it is his portraits that have attracted increasing attentionĀ and he has undertaken a number of high profile commissions including portraits of Sir Frank Rogers, Peter Ridell (of The Times) and Sir Phillip Naylor-Leyland.
Michael's work embraces a traditional approach of portraiture and his landscapes had a delicate mannerist feel. These atmospheric compositions are developed using a technique were he employs, oil, gold leaf, collage and watercolour.
