Ruth Stage
Ruth has a wonderful skill in the medium of egg tempera which is closely linked to fresco painting. Luminosity is the essence of her work and it is both delicate and expressive. When we first viewed it we described it as “Ethereal” and she was delighted as that is the effect she is trying to achieve. To achieve that effect Ruth uses traditional gesso ground and pure pigment. The paint is applied almost like a wash.
Ruth tends to have specific themes in both subject and technique. She concentrates on texture and sunlight and captures English stately homes, hedgerows of Greece and Majorca and beaches on sunny days with light reflected on the sand and water. Figures are often used in her seascapes.
Ruth spent some time panting the beaches near Rye. Ruth is a member of the New English Art Club and Royal Academy of Artists. She exhibits annually in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and with galleries in Cork Street and Central London. We are proud to have formed the connection with Ruth partly due to her affinity with the landscape surrounding our gallery in Rye.
